Time to move on!!!

  • Jesper Rasmussen

The competition in Holland is pretty good. But around that there seems to be a lot of things that?s not right. I like to say the following:

I know it sounds greedy to ask for better prize money for the races. But it is a part of a top sport. Because training cost a lot of time and energy. Travelling to races cost a lot of time and money. Top riders need to make sacrifices to be at a top level. In Holland the completion is pretty good. But the prize money is ridicules low at the Dutch race?s.

I know that some of the top riders in Holland see the Dutch championships more as a training instead of a real championship. Witch is very bad. I think we can change that if the federation ask themselves if they want to have it only as a family sport or also as a respected sport with professional athletes.

I mean, we need to improve the level of the tracks for the national races. Separate the national riders from the local riders. Have the nationals more professional instead a social meeting.

Like last weekend almost every kids from 12 years was jumping everything around the track. Tracks like this are not challenging enough for the national riders. The tracks for national races should have the same level as the international tracks. For many years I?ve been looking up to bmx in Holland. Bud right now I feel a little disappointed about the situation?..

Please don?t get me wrong on this. I love the sport of bmx to much to tear it down.

I like to say especially to the knwu-people and the organizes: it?s time to move on! And bring bmx to the next level. I know it not only the knwu-people and the organizers. We have to do this together to make it work?..

    Hello Jesper,

    What should I say,

Where must we begin, The rider, the federation, the organisator?

You need more money for the riders, but do jou now the cost for a organisation, en where did the get there money from?

It like easy, but it is verry difficult to realise

Also the people of the UEC most wake up and make one line of the national federatioans and the UCI

Whe are finished in Doetinchem, but jou don't no the kost and the time to bild the track. Everything for one race in the year. Nobody said " here you have money to bild. Not de city, not the KNWU, UEC or UCI.

I understand your problem, thats the raisen why all the big riders are going to an other diseplain and leave the BMX, and the BMX are stand still and have the image child sport.

I hope you to see you soon in Doetinchem

    Hey Hans!

I can see what you are saying, and I know it takes a lot of time and money to build a new track like you did in Doetinchem, but the thing is: It's not taking longer to build a good track than a bad track!

I think it's a good idea to have some experienced riders to help you build and design the track, like you did in Doetinchem. I feel bad for all the clubs that are trying to improved the track but don't have the right knowledge and then they come up whit a track that's not working well! A good idea will be to talk to some of the experienced riders before the clubs are going to improve there tracks!!

Top riders are motivated by a good event in combination with a good track, (the prize money that I was talking about is just a part of it!)

If you have a good event with a good track you will have top riders to race. The top riders make the race looks good. If the race looks good you have a big audience . The audience is a target for the media. The media is bringing in sponsors. Sponsors bring in money. With money organizers can make a good event, and then the circle is round!!!

I wonder if the knwu-people that is doing bmx wants to have it professional like this. Or want to have the race like a social meeting at the nationals like it is right now.

You are talking about riders disappear to other disciplines. I also think that's it is really said were losing good sportsmen. And I fact I can't blame them…

See you in Valkenswaard, you can borrow my zwemfest en duikbril because I think it’s going to a very wet weekend

    Later, Jesper Rasmussen

  • Bo Kleinhesselink

    Hey Jesper,

What you are talking about is the truth for sure. The better the riders the more people will show up for a bmx event. Then you get more visitors and then the media like you said.

A plan would be to get a good camera man to record all the National Mains and International Mains ( maybe semi's and quarters ) and produce them all on a video tape and sell them. I know he will make good money from it, maybe even send a tape to a TV station to see if they are interested?????

Looks like the weather is getting better over here, its raining less and less with the days that go by.

I think i will bring my rain suit with pants and a jacket and offcourse swimming goggles.

    see ya in Valkenswaard Jesper

And the next meeting will be in Baarn. Boy can we talk about rain!! Hope this year we will not have any rain. We have made some adjustments to our track. Hope everybody will like it. We did ask for experienced bmx-ers to help us with that. So come all to the 4th National BMX meeting in Baarn to see for yourselve!

  • Jesper Rasmussen

    Hi Brigitte!

Yes I am looking forward to come to Baarn and and ride your track. Last Year was shitty that the Knwu did not let you have the race, because your track is ok and it's not very funny to ride the same track for to weekends like we did last year!!

Hope the sun will be op all weekend long for the next Nk in Baarn…. :-)

    Dear Jesper,

You are talking about 12 year old children jumping around the track, well, at least they know how to behave themselves! We like having those kids on our track much better that a “champ” like you!

On our track you showed nothing but disrespect for all who were doing their very best (and succeeded according to all others but you) to make the NK-4 in Baarn succesfull for all.

So, you don't like the Dutch championship? You don't like the price money? You are worried about the costs of the trip? Just don't come back!

Seems to be the best solution for all.

  • Jesper Rasmussen

    Dear Paul!

    I realy don´t know what to say………

You just don´t get it!!!! I was not showing disrespect for all who were doing there very best, and yes i also think they succeeded!. How the F… do you know what i think?????

I was just talking to the staff about the track, and how to fix it! (the turns and stuff)

I was just trying to help out!!! Excuse me but i don´t call that desrespect!

Overall it was a good weekend.

One good advice for you Paul..“count your garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall”.

    Jesper Rasmussen

    (Indeed, I come back!)

  • Paul van der Wal

    Dear Jesper,

I will try to explain what we understand by “bad behaviour”. Not for you but for the public. I was in charge of the “Parc Fermee” ,as you probably know, during the NK in Baarn.

In our club we have certain rules for safety of the riders. One of them is that they always have to wear their helmet/gloves etc. before getting on the track. You go on the track when you leave the Parc Fermee, as you probably know.

Before each race all riders have to gather in the right lane in the Parc Fermee, as you probably know. We never ask riders to wait outside the fence, (just after the finish line, during a NK race), jump over when it's their turn, ignore the signs of one off the staff by just passing him and “climb” up to the start fence where already 16 others are waiting.

Do I need to go on???? Because I can give at least 5 more examples!

We had more than 400 riders during our NK.

Nobody gave any trouble, nobody was talked about with the track-managers, nobody, but you.

We try to teach all our members (also those young 12 year old) how to behave on the track and how to race as good as possible. We like to show them examples. We did not ask them to specially take a good look at you. That is not my problem.

Of course, you are welcome next year.

    Paul
